Yes. You can clip the badge anywhere there might be exposure as long as the temperature range falls between -5° to 40°C (27°F to 104°F) and the relative humidity is in the range 15% to 80%. Always ensure the open end of the badge is not blocked by other objects and is pointing towards the ground so that nothing can fall into the opening to block the air flow into the badge, and keep the badge out of direct sunlight.
A short exposure to rain will not harm the badge as long as the rain drops do not block the inlet of the badge. However, extended exposure will lead to inaccurate results because the relative humidity will be above the 80% limit for accurate readings.
No. If the badge is exposed to high levels of dirt, oils or other chemicals, even if you clean it before use, the exposure reading you get may be inaccurate.
Probably. If this happens, remove the sensor from the outer protective cover and inspect it carefully. If there are no cracks in the glass and no dirt sticking to the sensor, immediately insert the sensor back into the cover and go ahead and use it. Otherwise discard the badge you dropped and get a new one.
First, check your employer’s policy to determine whether you are authorized to measure exposure levels yourself or may only have specifically authorized personnel (e.g. a Safety Officer) measure your exposure. If you are authorized, please refer to the user manual for determining exposure with the Digital Reader or Pocket Viewer.
You don’t have to send the badge to any lab to determine your exposure level. Simply insert the badge into the Pocket Viewer or Digital Reader to view exposure level. If you are not sure how to use these devices, or not authorized to use them, please consult your Safety Officer.
No. The badge will not work properly after 12 hours exposure outside of its sealed pouch. If you wear the badge beyond 12 hours, any subsequent exposure reading may be inaccurate.
Yes, you can use the badge for indoor and outdoor monitoring of hydrogen sulfide exposure, but you should keep it out of direct sunlight. The badge is designed to measure exposure levels when the temperature is in the range -5° to 40°C (23 to 104°F) and relative humidity is 15% to 80%.
For maximum accuracy, badges are best read immediately after use. If you must store the badge, place it back in its original pouch, open-end first, fold the pouch end over a few times, tape the pouch closed, and store in the refrigerator. When ready to read the badge, let it equilibrate to ambient temperature before opening the pouch and inserting the sensor into the pocket viewer or digital reader.
No, the badge is warranted to perform to specifications only if you follow the recommended usage procedure.
No. The sensor should not be removed from the outer protective cover until you are ready to read your exposure level.
I can’t spare 15 min to let the pouch equilibrate before using the badge.
You can wear the badge continuously for up to 12 hours. However, the badge is designed to measure up to a maximum 400 ppm-hr. integrated exposure. If the H2S concentration in the environment is excessively high, the badge can saturate before 12 hours. For example, if the concentration of hydrogen sulfide gas is constant at 100 ppm, then the badge will saturate in 4 hours. Use the Pocket Viewer to check your exposure frequently if you are concerned the hydrogen sulfide concentration may be excessively high.
Remove the pouch from the refrigerator and let it equilibrate to ambient temperature for 15 min before opening the pouch.
When you are ready to monitor exposure, tear the pouch along the notch, and remove the badge. Keep the pouch for potential use later. Clip the badge to your clothing as close to your breathing zone as possible (e.g. on your shirt collar). This way, the badge will be exposed to the same air you breathe.
Make sure the open end of the badge is not blocked by other objects and is pointing towards the ground so that nothing can fall into the opening to block the air flow into the badge.
Store the badge refrigerated (38°F / 4°C) in its sealed pouch until ready for use.
