OPTICALLY TRANSPARENT POLYURETHANE SUBSTRATES with TOPOGRAPHY

Polymeric substrates are optically transparent and possess an anisotropic topography on tens of nanometer scales. The substrates are also available with conformal coatings of gold. When combined with the use of self-assembled monolayers formed from organosulfur compounds, these gold-coated polymeric substrates offer control of the chemical functionality and nanometer-scale topography of surfaces. This characteristic makes these substrates potentially useful in investigating a range of surface-dominated phenomena.

FAQ

How do I clean the polyurethane substrates with topography?
Rinse the substrate with ethanol and quickly dry with a nitrogen stream. This will also help to reveal the diffraction pattern of the topography.

How might I better see the diffraction pattern of the topography areas?
Tilt the substrate back and forth while holding over a dark background and supplying a light source from above.

What are the dimensions of the topography?
Each substrate contains four 2 mm x 8 mm areas of topography.

What does the topography consist of?
The topography is in a thin film (~ 40um) of polyurethane, which is adhered to a piece of soda lime glass.
